Shaykh Waleed Patel began the memorization of the Qurʾān, and consequently the beginnings of the Islāmic sciences locally in his hometown on Toronto. After that, he studied in Madrasah Arabia Islamia, a school in Gauteng, South Africa, where he completed further studies in ḥadīth, completing the famous Six Books and Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ, as well as fiqh, uṣūl, and other subjects. In this time he also studied the ten readings (al-qirāʾāt al-ʿashr al-kubrā).
